Hello there.
I have an account with Metro Bank and I thought id share some experiences here and see if anyone is willing to share thiers:
I walked into Metro Bank one day and asked to open a simple current account. The staff were friendly and helpful. I waited no longer than 5 minutes and someone was out to help me to open my account.
The Customer Service Rep was very helpful and she was so welcoming too. I sat down with the free coffee and started opening an account. It's not like your Barclays or your Santander but there is a happy face in front of you. You sit there and have a nice little chat , share a joke or two while its done.
Unfortunately as I just turned 18 in April , my application was referred. I went off home to return the next day as my application was approved.... two small forms signed and one specimen signature later and I have my Debit Card (Mastercard) and Cheque Book in hand.
I even set up my pin there and then on the chip and pin machine!!
I leave the bank with my Coffee in one hand , Card; cheques and info pack in the other.
A month or two later , good customer service , well ran account. Really pleased.
Any experiences? Any questions?

Yeah, walked in, showed my ID and bank statements. Got a new account and bank card in about 20 mins.
Wasn't offered coffee but got some dog biscuits to take home for my chihuaha at home... I usually try to take some dog biscuits home when I visit Metro Bank.
Cashiers are very helpful when you ask for stuff.0 -

That's the downside with this bank at present. Not enough branches and they're still growing so are only around London.0

There is a Metro Bank to open in Reading, Berkshire in the near future, work is in progress on the building but no information as to the opening date.0

It's going to take years before Metro Bank have the branch infra-structure necessary to be taken seriously as a 'High Street Bank" and I honestly can't see it happening.
Meanwhile the real challenge to the main banks will come when TESCO get serious and launch current accounts , they could easily use their existing store network (Like the CO-OP Bank did when I first joined).
If Metro Bank want to survive they need to build a national customer base P.D.Q but that will mean relying on Call Centres, phone and Internet - in other words abandoning their customer facing branch based approach.0
