Trouble with Benitravel.

Booked with Benitravel for one hotel but we have just been informed that it has been overbookedand we are now being moved to a hotel in the middle of nowhere. Are we covered to claim from credit card or travel insurance to cancel this. I have ask for a refund but they are not answering me or phone calls are being ignored also. Please help.

  • Hi I am having the same experience and this is what I have found..marino d'or is a 12000 apartment complex, there are two different types of apartments 1st line to the beach or 2nd line to the beach,no "premium apartments with half board" this is a load of bull, they are all self catoring.96 percent of them are owned by private owners, its not a hotel, the remaining 4 percent are owned or used by companys like benitravel or othe companys like danspeg which I have been in contact with tonight, think that's what its called...spoke directly to the owner of this company who explained a lot to me,said a lot of people have been ringing him the last few months as they have not been able to contact benitravel, people asking him if they have gone bust or not,he went to suss it out and see them in there office in beni which was closed, they have relocated to barcelona and are operating out of an office called "4ufestival" I emailed them as well tonight. Iv been ringing and ringing but no answer. I rang the citizens advice burau who told me they have 3 options they can put us up in better accom free of charge, put us up in shittier accom for a reduced price or give us a full refund. I emailed tania tonight basically saying that and either we get or original package with no extra charge or we demand a refund. I have alternative cheaper accom in marina dor with this other comp lined up if we do manage to get a refund,he can give us each room for 700 euro and the just 50 euro a head for shuttles to and from the festival. What I think is after happening is benitravel offered this "early bird dicount" in november which is what my sis got, this broke them and they poss went bust so now there trying to get us to pay more so that they can provide the accom. What have they been telling you, I will be ringing the police by 4 o clock today if I havnt heard a reply from them and i suggest you do the same.

Nearly word for word exactly the same as you. Just dont know what to do. Danesp has not got good reviews either so I would beware also. The phone number for benitravel is ringing but has only been answered once and once they heard an english voice they hung up. Really don't know what to do now. Have tried to phone them again and it now says that there is a fault on the line!

Send them a letter (snail mail, signed for) saying that you do not accept the alternative they have offered and so would like a full refund. Let your credit card company know (send them a copy of your letter). What ought to happen is that the agency should refund your money. If they fail to do so, your credit card company will do a "chargeback" and return your money to you.

Just as well you didn't pay with Paypal.
  • I have tried phoning but there is no answer so I have just left messages. At first I just didnt want to pay anymore extra but now I can't even see benitravel meeting us at the airport when we arrive. I have rang my bank and will be phoning the police in benicassim if I still havnt heard a reply. Don't know what else to do now. It's all a bit of a mess.

I'm in the same boat also. We've booked a hotel instead want nothing more to do with Benitravel. The last email from them a few days ago said that "You don’t need to fill anything just take this documents to Tourism in your country and there you’ll probably will have to fill something that they will transact to the Tourism in Spain to get the refund." - referring to the email they've sent me confirming the overbooking!! Madness!!

I spoke to my credit card company today who said that because I paid for this 118 days ago, I'm not covered, which is absolute nonsense so have asked to speak to someone more senior who is familiar with the Consumer Credit Act, and they will be calling me in next 24 hours.

If anyone has any joy with their credit card company please let me know as this may help to sway mine who are being a bit awkward to say the least!!

I have been phoning all over the place all afternoon. Firstly because Benitravel have offered other accomodation albeit 31 mlies away they will not be able to do a chargeback. The link they send you to get a refund is the spanish equivalent of consumer direct so don't hold your breath there. I have also been trying to phone benitravel but it says there is a fault on the line?
