Car Insurance Renewal - disclosure

I am about to renew my car insurance. I have had my licence for 5 years and never had an accident, so have 5 years no claims. Last year I had my car broken into at the cinema at christmas and my sat nav & some cash from a pocket stolen (£10). I didnt claim on my insurance and didnt tell them (I was kept on hold for over 30minutes on 2 occasions during the holiday period and ended up hanging up)but did report it to the police. My excess was over £300 so I thought it wasnt logical to claim.
Area around my lock was slightly damaged but the alarm didnt go off as they 'popped' the lock. Police told me that is very common in older cars - its 9 years old - and its not really possible to stop a thief getting into a car that age.

Should I report this as an 'incident' on my renewal form?

How will it affect my 'no claims'? I want to protect that this year (dont know if it was protected last year).

Will it increase my insurance alot?

Since there is already a paper trail (with the police) about this incident, you should report this as an incident.
Some insurers are quite relaxed about this sort of incident. For example, IIRC Aviva doesn't require you to declare any incidents where insurers weren't involved and no claim was made; but this approach is unusual.

It's better to declare in than have the policy voided, (although that seems unlikely if the incident is a damage-only incident)
