Help needed ASAP - Washing Machine not draining

Not getting any help else where so I'm hoping someone on here can help.

My parents have a washing machine that basically is on its last legs but refuse to replace it. Anyway.....

It doesn't appear to be draining properly, I can hear water when I turn the drum round and there is water in the 'softer' slot in the drawer.

and it smells pretty bad.

I assume this is a blockage, how do I locate and clear the blockage? I do have some soda crystals for unblocking sinks etc.

    Is the filter blocked?

Usually on the bottom/front one side or the other.

May be behind a flap or if it is a hotpoint it may be behind a facing plate that you need to use a screwdriver to pries off first.

Unscrew it and be prepared to mop up some water.

I would agree that checking the filter is a good idea.

Before I got the chance, stepdad decided to put it on rinse to see if it would drain he had switched setting and switched it on and off so now the drum is about 1/4 full so I imagine there will be a flooded kitchen

    I give up.

If possible, pull machine out and tilt it back to 45 degrees before opening filter. should slow down the flow of water and allow you to get a bucket underneath!

This happened to us last year - turned out an elastic band was wrapped around the impellor.
