large icons on desktop keep re appearing

When switching on PC, icons on desktop keep appearing as large (Disp Prop/appearance/High Contrast extra lge). These are amended to Windows standard in Disp props(applied then OK'd) but next time PC is closed down, they revert to Large again.Why?? Anyone help please??

could be a few things:
1) your graphics card is on it's way out..
2) your refresh rate on your monitor is too high
3) you're not shutting down properly for it to save settings
