I dont understand how you could have builders in and no bills? Did they not use power tools, make tea, have a radio on etc? If as seems likely they did then there must be some bill (though it may or may not be £140).

As already suggested you need to establish what the meter reading was in August when you bought the house and what it was in Feb when you let the house. Unless you believe the meter is faulty the difference between the two will tell you what you owe. If you think it is you can ask the supplier to test it but bear in mind that you are likely to be charged if its found accurate.

I'm not unduly surprised that you haven't got a reply in a few days unfortunately.

Do you hasve any idea why the bill is being adjusted - eg are they crediting you & rebilling the tennant somewhere?

Thank you to those trying to advise me. I emailed Eon, 4th July, with Subject - complaint regarding disputed bill Ac No .....

Same day received reply that my email had been forwarded and heard nothing since. Is this normal? I expected a swifter response.

    Hi Buttercup

I have to admit I’m struggling to make sense of the billing details you’ve posted, something definitely isn’t right here.

You need a bill from the date you purchased the property in August to the date the tenants took over in February. Unless the gas and electricity were switched off at the mains whilst the builders were in, there’s going to be 6 months worth of charges for energy used.

To make sure you only have to pay for your period of responsibility, we need meter readings from when you bought the house and readings from when the tenants moved in. Given the timescale, I expect we called and read the meters ourselves at least once.

The debt collection letters you’re getting are automatically sent after a set period of non-payment. As soon as you contact us to register a complaint this will stop until the disputed bill is corrected.

As the account is in your name, we may not have been able to act on the advice of your PMC and I’m sorry we haven’t replied to your email yet.

I’m more than happy to help with this, you can forward your email to me at webforumadvisors@eonenergy.com and I’ll get on to it straight away.

All I can say is make sure you take a meter reading yourself and dont rely on the estimates from Eon. I left Eon because of countless incorrect bills, crossed meter issues and transposed digits, not to mention rude and unhelpful staff and bullying calls and letters from UDS who clearly broke the code their code of conduct - I reported them to the OFT who registered a complaint etc etc. Glad to be shot of them.
