Thanks for the link Ian9999 - I will take a look!
Mrs Pee - I have an interview for a carers role but I am unsure exactly what the hours are - as far as I know you are assigned clients and kind of need to work around them? I am hoping to work 3 evenings a week and possible one morning or afternoon on a weekend. if I have to. If they require any more I think I will not pursue it as I think that will have enough challenges/strains - any more would tip the balance into a 'no money is worth this tiredness/stress' situation.
I will have to see what they say! I just have to remember that every day I have been 'working' from 6am and I need a couple of 'nights off'.
I must remember to go and buy something to wear to the interview - I don't own a single pair of smart trousers!
Stacey x2024 - happy, healthy, quality over quantity, buy nothing new (and 2nd hand only if NEEDED), mindful spending, nurturing myself and family, living for now.
Mortgage @ 31/12/23 £248k - too high, interest rate gone up - want this down asap!
Debt @ 31/12/23 £16k - no interest - will clear over 5 years hopefully.
Emergency savings £4k - been ransacked over last year - needs attention :-(0 -
I've just finished the lovefilm trial through quidco, all tracked
. It let me cancel online as it was only the trial, unlike when I stayed on to be a paid member last time and had to spend 10 minutes convincing the call centre member that I REALLY did want to cancel and not just put my account on holiday for 6 months. :P
If your interview is for a 0 hour contract then you aren't obligated to work any given hours, although a lot of places seem to want home carers (if it is for that) to work every other weekend. Although it may vary. if it's an agency then have a google around and see if any employees have spoken about them and if they're happy with them. There are some good ones and some not so good ones. Best of luck x0 -
Could you borrow something smart from one of your friends or something? If you would only need it as a one off for the interview x0

Very quick update from me -
Sunday tally up -
5.44 underspend my O2 bill
3.50 underspend hubbys O2 bill
1.54 Leftover in a virtual savings pot
10.48 TRF'd to ISA
No leftover change in purse.
Amount saved today £10.48.
Amount saved in July 2012 - £126.15.
On to next month - Going to be hard to put some money away in august as we have a wedding to attend, a meal out for cousins birthday, a 'night out' for our 5th wedding anniversary, plus we really need to put something by for my DD's christening party in September. Payday is 31st july so will do banks/budgets then and update here when I know how the land lies.
Other updates -
Bought a dress to wear to the wedding, needed tights & a small summery cardigan too. Used my birthday money so 'within budget'.
Bought some cheapo black trousers for interview from new look for £11 - used birthday money again - I might wear these to the christening as well.
Busy weekend but had lots of fun (I read the 2nd fifty shades book in under 24 hrs!)
Feeling anxious until payday so I can sort the budgets out and know what we have to work with for August.
No *news* yet - why do these things always take so long?? Must be patient.
Need to write a to do list for the week ahead to get this 'busy' feeling out of my head and to let the calmness return!
Must go through the vouchers I have and see what I want to use.
Must look at SB & SP after deserting them for the sunshine!
Been fairly good over the weekend with regards to food.
Looking forward to my interview friday.
Babysitters arranged for the meal out thurs night, interview friday & wedding saturday (if needed as may take them to it all or just the evening).
Feeling very tired - spend quite a few nights up ridiculously late reading but it has been nice to have some me time and step away from reality for a while.
Early night tonight I think.
Hope everyone is well - Night!!

Hello everyone!
Long time no speak! Making amends now though.
Had a very busy week including my cousins birthday meal, an interview and a wedding!
Had the *news* and unfortunately it is not good. Basically some plans to build have been refused at 'advice' stage from the council. However we will speak to the architect and see what other options there are in terms of building so there might be a glimmer of hope however we are quite dissapointed.
Managed to keep meal & wedding within budgeted spends which was good. Interview went well and I have been invited to the 2nd interview which is a 3 day induction in September. Very excited about this as it is for a company that want to offer the creme de la creme of caring services and want only the best. Consequently pay and working conditions seem a lot better than similar roles for other companies. Fingers crossed!
Trying not to feel down beat about the *news* my heart is saying 'sod it, spend the money saved and have some fun' however luckily my head stepped in and reminded me of the effort taken to save it and the fact that owning a home is our no1 priority and that we will do it somehow.
So in an effort to keep motivated I did the usual sunday banks & budgets and tallyed everything up. cash has been withdrawn for the month and allocated to the right sections of the cash purse.
Savings for this week:
£9.13 interest received
£8.00 underspent at wedding
£17.13 TRF'd to ISA.
Total saved since July 2012 - £143.28
Haven't had any time the last few days to do any SP'ing or SB'ing and haven't looked at my emails for days to see any surveys (just looked and I have missed loads). Need to get back on top of this! However I have been very concious that getting this job will provide much more income than any of the above would - I am really trying to focus on keeping everything relative!
I went for my weigh in last wednesday and I had lost 2.25lbs in my first week which I was very happy with! However these last few days have been very indulgent so I expect this week to be a gain - I am going to try really hard from Sunday - Weds to counteract all of the bad food!
DD still not sleeping through which is not helping my energy levels either!.
We have made the big decision now that we are not having any more children (unless we win the lottery!). So I have been starting to go through all the baby stuff, take pictures and put it on a facebook selling site. That has taken up alot of time too. I am going to keep the very sentimental pieces and some I am keeping as they are and the rest I am going to make into two patchwork memory blankets (one boys and one girls).
This is definately a start of a new era. I need to pull myself together, dust myself off and formulate a plan. Just a shame the *news* wasn't what we had hoped and expected as this has knocked us for six and derailed the original plan.
I am going to have a think about what the new plan might be and then update here when I have some answers.
Stacey
P.s yes I really am OCD enough to 'always need a plan' or else I always feel a little lost and like I am treading water and not making progress!2024 - happy, healthy, quality over quantity, buy nothing new (and 2nd hand only if NEEDED), mindful spending, nurturing myself and family, living for now.

Hi Stacey
Have been reading your thread today and as a consequence spent most of the afternoon and evening collecting swagbucks having joined up via your link. So haven't achieved much else:mad: but have collected nearly 500 SB :T
I got my first mortgage when I was 28 and hope to have it paid off by the time I'm 45 - sooner if I have my way. It's only in the last few years that I've been trying to follow the MSE way - if only I had the foresight to start earlier like you are.
Anyway, best of luck with it and it's worth seeing if you can have another go with getting your plans accepted with some modifications.

Thanks for your comment WIR - It can get quite addictive lol maybe I should have put a warning next to the link!
Todays update -
1. Pinecone survey completed.
2. Phoned sainsburys energy as they had not contacted me after my uswitch switch - they will honour the tariff even though they don't offer it any more - projected £150 per year saving. Direct Debit will be £34 per month cheaper.
3. Went onto the Virgin wines site and ordered a free case of 6 bottles of white using the voucher sent from uswitch for the dual energy switch.
4. NSD
5. Meals from leftovers/mealplan today.
6. House remaining reasonably tidy (apart from the huge piles of things to sell!).
7. Going to the 'fat club' tonight for a weigh in - I have eaten rubbish all week so know I am going to gain therefore I am happy I am not paying £5 like I would if I went to SW as fat club is free at my aunties!
8. Still have 1/3 of a tank of fuel in the car which was from the Fill up in July!! Therefore hope some of our budgeted fuel money can go into house savings.
9. Food cupboards maxed out therefore spends on food this month should be under budget too!

Hi everyone!
Sorry it has been a while since I posted on here, I have been a little busy....
...Buying a house!!!!
Since we were told that the building thing wasn't going to happen we decided to investigate mortgages on my husbands salary combined with the deposit that we have saved. On talking to my husbands parents they said they would match our deposit to help us out.
We went and viewed three 3 bedroom houses that were near to our budget & after a bit of research and two offers - they accepted an offer we have made!
We are so excited!! The house we offered on has just been done up throughout including new kitchen/bathroom/carpets & boiler. It only came on the market the morning of our viewings and we were therefore the first to see it.
Me and my husband have already discussed overpayments and plan to start overpaying straight away!
Hopefully in a few weeks time i will be able to update with some actual figures!
