Your doing so well.
Going by the MSE mortgage calculator it will take me 16 years and 3 months for 40k
Need to majorly reduce that somehow or we will never do it.DebtFree FEB 2010!Slight blip in 2013 - Debtfree Aug 2014 :j
Savings £132/£1000.0 -
I have no idea how long it will take us. I think if I knew it would take that long I would be demoralised. However I am concious of the fact that I will not be a sahm indefinately so our circumstances/amount we can save will eventually change for the better.
And we've gotta come out of the recession one day too!2024 - happy, healthy, quality over quantity, buy nothing new (and 2nd hand only if NEEDED), mindful spending, nurturing myself and family, living for now.
Mortgage @ 31/12/23 £248k - too high, interest rate gone up - want this down asap!
Debt @ 31/12/23 £16k - no interest - will clear over 5 years hopefully.
Emergency savings £4k - been ransacked over last year - needs attention :-(0 -
Good point there.
I wish houses were cheaper in Essex (that is the main factor for us cheapest 3 bed on rightmove is 200k then jumps to 250k+).
We don`t want to move away due to family, work and the children being settled here.
We will have to work very hard.DebtFree FEB 2010!Slight blip in 2013 - Debtfree Aug 2014 :j

We have the same problem here!
The village we want to move back to in wiltshire is very sought after (normally by people 'from the city' looking for a country retreat!), us born and bred villagers in our 20's have all been forced into neighbouring towns as we can't afford the house prices - even to rent.
It is so sad as my family have lived in the village since the 1800's, 4 out of my 5 aunties/uncles live in the village as well as my parents, my husbands parents and my grans sister. Yet myself and every single cousin has been 'priced out'.
A three bed which is an average size with a small 'courtyard' garden would cost around 250k+ and a three bed with a reasonable garden for kids to play etc would cost £300k+.
The other difficultly is that although there are a few towns the nearest large town where you could get a well paid career is a 1hr30min commute each way. The local towns where most of us are employed pay under the average wage yet the house prices are over the average ...go figure!!
I just hope so badly that we get some *good news* soon!!
Keep plodding away, any progress made is a step forward, if you want something badly enough you can get it!!

It is hard isnt it. We both were born and bred here and know everyone and know everywhere.
Currently in social housing, but can`t bear living here (rotten neighbours) we`ve tried mutual exchange but nothing on there so far, everyone seems to want to move away nowadays
.
My DH can`t get a good paid job due to having learning difficulties he has no qualifications or skills so stuck in his job where his been for 10yrs now. I wil continue to save hard and see what it brings....hoping i win the million on Friday :rotfl:
I hope you get good news soon xDebtFree FEB 2010!Slight blip in 2013 - Debtfree Aug 2014 :j

Hi Stacey, You are in a similar(ish) position to me, being a SAHM with young kids, but I work in the evening at the moment - it's very tiring though... I would say that evening work would definitely boost your savings quickly, but just make sure that you end up with a good work/life balance.
You look to be doing brilliantly, keep it up. (subscribed)0 -

I do find the surveys within the special offers quite poor in terms of qualifying for them however the daily survey on the homepage I normally qualify for 5 out of 7 days x
Howdi
Which survey / website do you use?
Thanks

Savingmummy - I will have my fingers crossed for you tomorrow then!
MrsPee - Can I ask how many hours/days you work and what you feel a good life/work balance is in our situation?
Marie27lol - I use Swagbucks primarily & also superpoints - I have put a link to them both on the first page of my thread x
Todays update -
Far too hot, irritable kids, no air moving - phew!
Decided yesterday that now is the time to shift those last few pounds of baby weight - I literally have about 7lbs to lose but those 7lbs make all the difference to my shape/size/fit in my clothes.
I dug out my old slimming world books, went shopping for healthy foods (took a list :T) and then went to my aunties 'fat club' (thats what they've called it lol not me being mean!) where some of my family and friends go to weigh in and support each other. All are following the slimming world plan but can't afford to actually go.
Today followed plan rigidly so far, already made a quorn chilli and put in the slow cooker for tea tonight.
Made a toddler friendly version of chilli for DD and put 6 mini portions into the weaning tray for the freezer.
Received a 20p MOC from walkers through the post.
Handyman come round to fix the 'list' of problems in the house - a bill not paid for by us as we rent!
NSD.
Needed some storage boxes for the mountain of girls/boys clothes we are accumulating (we can't decide if we will have any more children so are keeping everything for now). Needed 10 boxes. Priced from Wilkinsons £90, Priced from local cheapy shop £70, decided that we would make do without boxes even though they stack better so ordered some thick zip up laundry bags on ebay, just by asking got a £2 reduction on postage and ended up paying £20.50 for 10 bags.
Hoping to do banks/budgets soon.
Think thats all for now. Going to try and fit in 10 mins of SB'ing or SP'ing now x

Hi Stacey,
I work 20hrs a week at the moment, I do 3 evenings from 6pm-11pm and then Saturday from 9am-2pm. I find that it does impact on family time quite a bit as it means 3 days a week we can't eat our tea together and also I'm not home til half 2 on a Saturday, which means that we can't do much then either. Mr Pee does the tea/bath/bed routine on the evenings that I'm working.
I'm lucky really as there aren't many part-time jobs that are so convenient for me working around the children (mine are 1, 2 and 4, so none are at school yet). I have asked to reduce my hours slightly though, so I hope that will be accepted.
You said you had an interview for an evening job, what kind of hours would it be?
Mrs Pee0
