Although having choice sounds great I think the reality will be that you have no choice.
My estate has a mix of quarters, 4 beds, a few large 3's, lots of small 3's, 2 bed houses, 2 bed flats.
Given the option, no one ever wants a flat and everyone wants houses so quickly all that will be left are Flats and small 3 beds, so you will have a choice and not the choice you want - your having a flat.
What the system really needs is intelligent management, heres an example:
you've the following families-
1, A couple with 3 kids aged 7,8,9 married 10 years.
2, A couple just married first time living together, first time they've not lived with mum and dad no kids.
3, A couple with twins aged 2
4, A couple with a 6 year old, 15 years of marriage.
And the 4 quarters to fit them in.
A flat 2beds
A house 2beds
A big 3 bed house
A small 3 bed house
In a sensible world family 1 will get the 3 bed, 2 the flat, 3 the small 3 bed and 4 the 2 bed house.
Without management its just down to luck and sure you can make some families very happy but others miserable, with management you can make everyone content.
Not to say the present systems any better but what we really need are the allocators to look at the family make up, time married, time in service and choose the quarter that fits, not the next one on the list.0 -

an example of what i mean is:
i used to be married, with 2 kids, had a quarter.
seperated from the witch of an ex, she took full custody because i obviously moved into SLA for the time being.
i contacted the HIC to look at a quarter so i can go for 50/50 custody. obv being a singley on a deployable ops unit having full custody not really in the kids interest. was told no, the rules changed and you can now only get a quarter if you are married, or have full custody.
end result, i am now 7 hours away from the kids with very VERY limited access living in SLA.0 -
Hello dt3887,
Thank you for your additional feedback.
The definition of the modern family has been high on our agenda for sometime. We conducted a survey which fed into the Future Accommodation Project (FAP)Team’s review on Service accommodation. The results of our survey can be foundhere: http://content.yudu.com/Library/A1tu2e/NFFFutureAccommodati/resources/index.htm?referrerUrl=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.yudu.com%2Fitem%2Fdetails%2F400629%2FNFF-Future-Accommodation-for-Service-Families---Survey-Report The FAP team is due to present their report in the autumn/winter –please keep a watchful eye for the announcements which will be posted on ourwebsite.
It is thanks to the type of feedback that you are providing that we are ableto raise the issue with senior military personnel and Government for discussion.
Kind regards,
The NFF Team

Having had a very disappointing experience with the allocation of a house yesterday I'm not liking the new system!
Rang hic(7) Wednesday to be told that the property we had put as our preference ( and the only one available!) was there ready to be offered to us she just had to click the offer button. As the person who clarifys that would be ok wasn't in they would phone me back once offered
My oh is on a course so has very limited access to dii hence the phone call to let him know to go on and accept.
I rang them back yesturday to ve told that property's no linger available it's been offered and was also told its because no march out booked?
Really disheartening when you've had a verbal offer to then be told the next day they've withdrawn it
Now looking at ssfa which are grade 1 and it's going to be a struggleMy big fat eBay wedding £1200 budget! 1st September 2012!!
Mummy to two little soldiers and still mothering my solider htb! X0
