Unhappy with garage..

My car broke down and the AA towed it to my closest local dealer for repair. It SEEMS to be elecrtical/ignition/immobiliser related and I do appreciate these things can be tricky to pin down.
After waiting one month for the repairs done so far, I've now been told they're still not confident that they've solved the problem. It won't come as a surprise that I'm not very happy with the very slow service I am getting. I also feel communication is poor, I have to keep calling them.
If the car is sufficiently mobile would like to simply pay them for work done to date and take my car to my usual dealer garage to complete any further necessary diagnostics and repairs.:(
Before I try to do this does anyone have any other suggestions as to how I proceed? Thanks.

Once it's gone, it's gone - so remember...
Pay for the things you need before you dream about the stuff you want

The garage have had the car a month, and are still not confident of repair, and only now you think it is too long?
Go in, speak to the boss and, ignoring which sparky he uses, get it out and go elsewhere. Be prepared for a long negotiation as fault finding without result is a pretty hard thing to bill for.0 -
Yeah, do NOT be fobbed off. One whole month!!? They're taking the mickey good and proper.
There is no way they can reasonably expect you to charge for having achieved, basically, nothing. And for having wasted a month of your time in the process.
It would appear that some garages seem to make their money purely from charging for "diagnostic" work that results in nothing, not too dissimilar to tradesmen that charge a "call out fee" then tell you they can't fix it. I wonder sometimes whether they ever actually fix anything - or whether their sole source of income is "call out fees".0
