Would you post to Australia?

A potential purchaser has emailed me to ask if I will post to Australlia - I don't normally post overseas so I had a look at the postage sticky and it says if I was to send International Signed for or Airsure with RM then it will not definately get updated and I may not be able to claim if INR?
Item is boxed weighs less than 200gr and is about 15cm by 15cm by 15cm, value around £40 - it is glass but sturdy and well packaged.
So these are my questions!
Would you send to Australia?
If sent RM if the item went missing could I claim for it going walkabouts?
Is there a courier anyone has used who is cheap (yet reliable!)?
Thanks very much.

all i've done this weekend is write up parcels to go to australia. it's been a weird weekend - i've had 73 sales to australia and 27 of them were called kev (all different people). i never have any sales in australia and now all of a sudden i've had bloody loads.
the first one i had over the jubilee weekend got there in record time. i posted it (a hoody, weighing 600g) on the friday and had an email on monday morning thanking me for the speedy delivery and he'd also left feedback.helpful tips
it's spelt d-e-f-i-n-i-t-e-l-y
there - 'in or at that place'
their - 'owned by them'
they're - 'they are'
it's bought not brought (i just bought my chicken a suit from that new shop for £6.34)0 -
If they paid the postage fee, yes.
For £40 you are insured by ordinary postage, even overseas; just keep your proof of posting."Well, it's election year, Bill, we'd rather people didn't exercise common sense..." - Jed Bartlet, The West Wing, season 4

I have sent lots to Australia, mostly clothing, and always Airsure - I've had delivery confirmation every time and nothing missing yet (fingers crossed!). Last item took 3 or 4 working days to get there.0

There has been suggestions that RM will not pay out for glass is standard airmail is used, I do hope that is wrong as I am about to try a claim.
I sell a lot to Australia but just recently have had issues with post being very very slow and some of the emails I have received have been quite impolite. It is odd as until this year I never had a moments problem with Australia but I am now being careful what I offer for sale there.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. I have been sending to oz for years, usually large letters weighing under 100 grammes and its £8.35 international signed for.
If an item does go missing RM cannot trace it once its left them ie got to oz for regional distrubution. The way around it if it does go missing is to find out the local sorting office/postal service to the area and give them an email with the details. A pain in the butt but if you can find the missing item then all the good. ( past previous missing items in oz has learnt me ).0 -
Never had any problems posting to Australia'The More I know about people the Better I like my Dog'

If it's glass, I would take a photo of it before it's sent, showing it's sturdily packed *just* in case, otherwise RM may dispute any claim for damage in transit.0

OK - I see your point.
For books etc. I'd always send, it's never been a problem for me posting overseas, even a package to Italy got there (in two weeks). However, I have never dabbled in glass so admit my blanket, one-size-fits-all might be a bit flawed. My most lucrative sale was to Aus so perhaps I'm a bit biased as well.
ISF is a bit of a white elephant - if it doesn't track to a country it really doesn't give much extra for what you pay for it unless you pay for extra insurance on top of the ability to acquire a signature. I've only thought about using it once - to Ukraine - and baulked at paying £5 on a £10 sale."Well, it's election year, Bill, we'd rather people didn't exercise common sense..." - Jed Bartlet, The West Wing, season 4
