I read garlic is poisonous to cats....

however I am tempted to try the cedarwood or pine essential oil rinse - make a more natural alternative to baby wipes (they get a wipe down monthly when their flea drops are due to keep them squeaky clean - ok sometimes less than monthly - they are indoor cats & sleep on my bed)!

johnsons baby shampoo kills fleas very well! my dad had a white dog so was easy to watch them dying off!!
obviously this only works if your cat likes water, unless of course you want to get scratched to pieces!!

my 2 kittens have fleas, only a few but i'm worried they'll get worse. i'll give baby shampoo a go first but how do you avoid their eyes and if it did go in them would it harm them?

Have you tried a good old flea comb? Far less to do than a full-sized cat, and if you get them used to it now they'll be more tolerant of it when they are adults!

Remember that fleas are difficlt to squash - you have to use your nails, or you can drop them in a candle flame, or dunk them in soapy water.

Um cut the kittens claws before undertaking bathing. Catch 1 kitten, brush fur to get excess off, close bathroom door firmly & put one kitten in botton of bath only catch a v small amount of water in bottom of bath like less than 1 inch - then get temperature right & use a shower attachment & this is a 2 person job: one to hold kitty firmly & other person to dampen the fur, rub a small amount into hands & gently apply a bit at a time until kitty's fur covered. then rinse v gently - ie none should go in the eyes - use cotton wool if yr nervous around the face/head/eyes. Finish with squeezing excess water out & dry throughly with a towel - when me & Mum did mine we used to do it on Friday & use the family's dirty towels so cat would feel a bit reassured - if the cat will allow it can totally dry with hair dryer. Personally I think it can be alot of work & now just baby wipe my two now & again.

Shampooing gets them nice & clean & kills fleas but does nothing to prevent re-infestation!

I'm sorry this isn't more helpful but I feel I ought to point out that 90% of the fleas will be living in the house - they hop on the cat for a feed and then return to some nice crook, cranny or the carpet for a snooze! So whatever you do with flea combs etc is just a long battle I am afraid!
