Thanks you guys. Seems I cannot afford to return to work as a sole charge nanny is likely to cost more than my after tax earnings. Wasn't aware most au pairs are not left insole charge. I of course expected to pay for her to attend the local language school etc but could only justify the expense if I could go out and earn too. Oh well, back to the drawing board!!

why not go for a childminder ? they charge around £3.50 per child per hour, sometimes with a reduced rate if more than one child cared for

the downside is they are cared for outside of your home and so would need to drop them off / pick them up etc

    have a look on here : http://www.childcarelink.gov.uk/index.asp

A childminder looks after children in his / her own home NOT the childs home :)

Thats what I meant, I just worded it wrong. I mean their own home as in the childminders.

Try greataupair.com and aupair-world.net - I am using those at the moment to look for an au-pairing job for the summer and they are both good sites.

My daughter is taking Early Years development at West Suffolk college. She hopes to be an an-pair when she finishes next year, but she intends to work abroad. If you contatct the college, they might be able to put you in touch with students who have already passed the course. At the moment, DD and her fellows are doing placements where they help mothers who have a baby and a pre-school child. She loves it and it leads to a lot of baby sitting jobs.
