Look Out on Gocompare

I went to Gocompare for a quote for my car insurance, all went well and I got the list of quotes sorted by lowest annual premium.( The default setting.) So far so good. The cheapest was Swinton, so I clicked on 'buy online' and was transferred to Swintons web site only to find that the annual premium option was not available and the monthly payment option was approx. 10% more expensive.
Well I was not very pleased with that so I decided to speak to a human and phoned Swinton. I was told that the annual figure shown was not in fact a payable premium. It was the cost of the insurance for a year and that this figure was used to calculate the interest payable over the year. The cost of these two amounts was the applied over the year.
Now call me old fashioned if you will but when I get quotes from a comparison site sorted by annual premium I expect to be able to pay that premium and get a years insurance. Not be told later that I have to pay more if I want that insurance.
So look out if go to Gocompare make sure that the annual premium is available and not some ficticious figure that you can't pay.

Please take this up with Gocompare, as they will believe that all the annual premiums quoted will be payable as a one-off annual payment. They won't know about the problem unless people tell them.
The comments I post are personal opinion. Always refer to official information sources before relying on internet forums. If you have a problem with any organisation, enter into their official complaints process at the earliest opportunity, as sometimes complaints have to be started within a certain time frame.
  • I have done so already, no response
  • Got an Email today saying that it is being looked into.

No. I had the same problem with Admiral who quoted £690ish for my daughter but when we offered to pay in full were told it would cost in excess of £1100, we opted for the lower price but this rose by about £90 when the interest was added on.
    Be Alert..........Britain needs lerts.
  • Had a phone call from Swinton today, they said sorry and told me that the problem had been sorted.
