Jsa & pilon

Just wondering how this works.

I am being made redundant, last day this Friday. I am not working my statutory notice (9 weeks) but instead being given a tax free lump sum to cover my 9 week notice and redundancy pay.

So the question is, do I start claiming for JSA on Monday or do I have to wait 9 weeks. The reason I ask is that I have got lifestyle protection insurance and this is paid out once I am getting JSA, so obviously I would like to claim sooner rather than later, especially since my insurance has a 90 day waiting period.

A colleague says the law changed recently so PILON is no longer taken into account when claiming JSA, but I can't find anything official on this.

BTW, I won't be eligible for IB JSA as my partner works full time and I have a bit of savings so its just CB JSA that I am enquiring about.

Thanks in advance

The benefit system has gone mad.

So you can be paid in full from your job at say £300 a week and then get JSA on top of that for the same time.

It's no wonder the country is in a mess.
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.

Your job must be terminated to claim JSA, so you are no longer being paid.

Contributions JSA is paid when you have no job and are looking for one, it is not means tested but does get reduced by earned income and pensions.
