RBS said they were closing accounts...but haven't!?

My partner received a letter stating that RBS were closing ALL 3 of his accounts due to how they were being managed.
They said the accounts would close on 6/6/12, and any money in the accounts would be sent in a cheque.
However, I have logged in today to find all accounts still active, and as one of them is a business account with a monthly charge, it is now £60 overdrawn!!
Has anyone has anything similar happen, and are we liable to pay when they have stated in writing that the account would be closed in June?!
