Hi guys and gals.
I am a member of a newly formed charitable trust.
Can anyone advise on the best places to apply for funding, as we have a building we wish to purchase as a base for us.
we are a theatre group mainly, which offers drama, dance and singing lessons to children and adults alike. currently there are over 200 of us.
But we desperately needs funds.
can you help?
this building would not only be a home to us, but to many other groups locally too, who, thanks to the local council, are homeless, as suitable building are being pulled down for flats. this building is one of the last in the town, and it is where we have been for the last 5 yrs, until we were evicted by the methodist church, who put it up for sale.

This isn't an easy project and there are no short answers. As a new charity, it is very difficult to get large grants for capital projects. It would be like a school-leaver asking the bank for a big morgage.
You need to show that you are a well organised institution capable of good financial management and some capacity to raise funds from your own supporters. You will need a comprehensive business plan and budget.
Visit the public library for books on fundraising and charity management. Visit your nearest voluntary service bureau for advice as well.

Hi Steiff1
I work for a small charity - we work with homeless young people. Funding is a nightmare, especially at the moment. You need to establish as many networks and partnerships as you possibly can. Hound everyone and I mean EVERYONE! Best of luck to you. In the meantime, check out this website on a regular basis:

There are a couple of stickies on the Small Biz & Charity Organisers board you might find helpful, in particular one points you to some free downloads which really help you write fundraising applications - great if you are new to it!Signature removed for peace of mind0
