Northern Rock Current Accounts - what happened to them?

I have been sorting out my financial papers and come across my Northern Rock current account. I never closed it. There was still some money in it. Anyone know what happened to these? There doesn't seem to have been any correspondence about it for some time.

Do you have an online login for Northern Rock?

No. It was never an online account. If I want to find out anything (I also have a couple of ISAs) I phone them. But I have had nothing from Virgin since it bought NR. I also have an NR savings (investment ) account. No regular communication because there has been no activity on my part. I got a letter in November saying about the sale to Virgin Money but nothing since from Virgin.

Unfortunately there is no branch anywhere near me, there used to be but it closed. I was just wondering if anyone knew what was happening since Virgin Money bought them last year as it has all gone quiet since.

They have probably taken it off of the list of new accounts that can be opened while getting ready for the move for the account from the Northern Rock computer system and the Virgin Money computer system. They will lose custom inbtween times rather than gain it so less to go wrong when they do the migration of the NR Current Account to the new VM Current Account project.

They haven't offered new current accounts for a few years now.

But the old ones still exist.
