Creditor Calls

  • As soon as they know you are BR, they'll stop calling. They're only calling for money, and once BR you are NOT ALLOWED to give them any. Even if you really, really wanted to. I imagine they'll know this, and it they don't, tell them. They honestly won't bother you again - promise! The court sent me about 5 copies of my BR order in the post a day or so after my BR date, so you could even give the doorstep collector one of those and save the price of a stamp/phonecall. (I hope this isn't going to be the bit where everyone chimes in saying 'nooo, that's not what those papers are for, you were meant to do something really important with them straight away and because you haven't it's all gone wrong :):):))
"Most of the people ... were unhappy... Many solutions were suggested for this problem, but most of these were largely concerned with the movements of small green pieces of paper, which is odd because on the whole it wasn't the small green pieces of paper that were unhappy." -- Douglas Adams

I have been discharged just over a year and still have a statement from Santander informing me and my OH what my statement still stands at ????. It does not ask for any money, but i think they are hoping i pay some, even though as i say, it was part of our BR.
Our phone calls were less and less after the initial br date, the stragglers i politely gave them the br date and court etc. They were happy with that and never bothered any more. If you should get any hassle then your O/R will write to them (again), we had great O/R and couldn't praise them enough. Good luck hun, no one had the nosiest neighbours like us, and as far as i know do not know anything. Apart from the bank, and my daughter, no one knows.

  • Hi i went bankrupt august last year and i photocopied my Bankruptcy and sent them to every creditor with a covering letter, short and to the point. This put my mind at ease that i had done what i can as it takes the OR time to sort everything.
Keep the original court copies of the order !! i still got phone calls but i just told them i was bankrupt and couldn't pay them even if i wanted to as it would break the terms of my bankruptcy and i wasnt risking it for them. Just be firm. Its quite strange but the ones that hassled me were the ones i owed the least to!! strange.
I would answer the door and just give them a copy with attached OR name and address and say take it up with them. If they keep coming, keep issuing, they will get fed up coz there is nothing you can do! You have been through the worst so chin up they cant do anything good luck :) x
