Washing machines

Hi

How long on average should a washing machine last?

I have had my Zanussi for just over 3 years and I've used it at a guesstimate about 500 times.

Last night during a wash it stopped, just before the drain cycle. It still makes a wurring noise like it wants to work but doesn't!

so now I have water in the machine (having removed the clothes)

is 3 years about right?

cheers

If it won't drain, then its probably just a blocked filter/pump, takes 5 minutes to check-when did you last clean it? You're not thinking of ditching it just for that?
Even a budget brand like Zanussi should last more than 3 years.

Thanks for the reply macman...no I'm not ditching it, I was thinking about getting it repaired but if it's a DIY thing then I'll give it a go

    cheers

Could it be that the brushes need replacing. Worth having a search on the web although on our 13 year old Bosch it was never a DIY job we could do but we have a repairman who charges no call out fee to come and sort it. Machine has since died completely though. £280 for a part:eek:

11 years and counting on our AEG. I estimate 3,000 cycles.

It had a new door seal a couple of years ago, but other than that it has been perfect.

My Zanussi washer dryer is about 7 and a half years old. Probably averages at four or five uses a week. I just run a cleaning cycle on it every couple of months and check the fluff filter. I suppose its been used maybe 1500 - 1600 times so far.

We got 26 years out of a Philips.

There are only two of us so probably an average of only 3 or 4 washes a week = maybe 5,000 washes.

I did have to do a few minor repairs but that didn't involve buying parts.

My Zanussi washer dryer is 4 yrs old, used on average one or twice a week and about a month or so ago it started playing up. It was stopping on some washes and refusing to rinse, drain or spin. Neighbour came and emptied it out.

Now it only works on some low temperature washes and according to advice I got on here, it's definitely on it's way out. I'm not a happy bunny as I consider it has only really had pretty light to average use. One careful lady owner as they say! I don't suppose I've used the dryer more than 5 times in those four years.

Now I'm reduced to using the machine as little as possible in an effort to keep it going as I'll be moving soon and don't want to have to replace it before I go. Especially as I want to get an integrated appliance in my new home.
The bigger the bargain, the better I feel.

I should mention that there's only one of me, don't confuse me with others of the same name.

Well I've sorted it thanks to the replies on here...it was indeed the filter that was clogged with fluff off the clothes and once removed the machine is back working normally

note to self...check filter more often

    thanks all

Would appreciate anyone who is thinking about washing machines to complete my survey for a uni project. Some of the things I am looking at is how often your washing machines is used and your views on recycling survey.bris.ac.uk/uclan/wmsurvey

There will be two prizes drawn at the end of the survey.Choice of either £20 amazon.com voucher or 1 years supply (1 litre) of DrBeckmann “Service-it” washing machine cleaner.

Zanussi are going downhill fast. Lovely old machine worked for ten years, but new one awful.
All Zanussi machines have now got noisy water pumps. The machine is lovely and quiet until it has to pump water out. Zanussi refuse to refund the product as the noise level is in the full spec of the machine. As if we know what 79db will sound like. The noise on all zanussi washing machines is horrific due to its pump. Confirmed also by their technicians. Avoid, Avoid, Avoid all Zanussi Washing Machines.
Try the LG ones instead, they are so quiet all the time.
