Ebay: Item sold to someone else after paid for

I feel like my point is being missed... This is not about how the seller wanted me to pay; I would have paid in gold bars if that was her preference!

I won the item, I paid for it, I arranged collection. She requested earlier collection. I agreed. She asked me to change the payment, I refused as it had already gone through (never had to cancel a payment before!). She then asked if it could be delivered, I agreed. Then she said could I collect at another day/time due to deliveries and she couldn't keep the sofa. Then she said she'd sold it to someone else.

Her story changed many times over. I just wanted to pick up the flipping sofa! I don't think it's right that she was able to sell goods that I had bought, to someone else after I did everything possible to follow her forever changing 'terms'

No, the point isn't being missed - it's just been sidetracked into a discussion of a favourite topic because you mentioned you paid Paypal for a collection item.

I would be a little sceptical of someone who refunded me and asked me to pay by another method - I would think there was something wrong with it and the seller wanted to indemnify themselves against a possible return/refund.

Thing is, you paid, the seller wouldn't sell, I think that negates the PPoC issue anyway.

As for being better with small ads - I don't think the seller would get on well even with those. They sound like an absolute nightmare to deal with, and even if they did use small ads they'd probably behave the same way.

Some people don't realise that a certain amount of flexibility gets them further than being inflexible. It all becomes about what is convenient for them, and then they are left with people they think are dodgy because they can't accommodate people who are otherwise happy to fork over cash to them.

Those are the sorts of sellers I don't understand. I can understand sticking to certain payment methods which are more reliable - but this sort of person just deserves a neg and to be kicked off eBay properly; it sounds like they are living on borrowed time.
