Any experience of tax credits when child leaves education?

Hi all,
Wasn't really sure how to title this sorry,my son who is 18 left education last week,i informed tax credits and they said he would be removed from the claim as of course i knew he would be.
The thing is i have other children who do qualify so i will still get tax credits for them but something the advisor said on the phone has worried me a bit.
I usually get paid weekly on a Wednesday and i asked if there would be any delay in my next payment,he said it can take 4 weeks to processs a change and it was possible that i might not get a payment at all until it was all updated.
I was wondering if anyone else had been through this? I understand that the tax credits for my son will stop but what about my other children? Could i really be waiting 4 weeks for my next payment?
The advisor just told me to keep checking my account, how long should it be before payments resume?

i assume you are talking about child tax credits?are you still getting child benefit for the 18 year old(if so that will be paid till last mon in august)then ctc should be paid until then, and if then he registers with the connexions service benefits can be paid for a further 3 months0

Hi im in a similar situation, my daughther finished college 1st June, still receiving child benefit until august, but have been informed by CTC that i will not receive any more payments for her and payments have actually finished. Is she allowed to sign on for unemployment benefit or entitled to anything else.0

Thankyou for the replies, they told me that the rules have changed for tax credits now and they stop as soon as an 18 year old leaves education,my child benefit carries on until August though unless his working hours go up to 24+ which he is hoping will happen soon,he is currently on 15.
I managed to speak to someone this morning who actually took my details and it has all been processed with thankfully no break in my payments where my other children are concerned so i am very relieved about that.
natnhay if she is 18 she can sign on to JSA but that will stop your child benefit payments right away, same if she finds work that is 24 hours per week or more.
ETA: Woodbine is correct about the extension if she registered with connexions,my son hasn't gone down that route but it may be useful to your daughter.0 -
Justmel Thank you for your reply. Will look into JSA,i didnt think she could claim until September.0
