how often to feed potato's?

i have some maris piper pots in a barrel planter,how often should i feed them,and can you use tomato plant food for them?

    Yes, you can use tomato feed. Any high potash feed will do. Personally, I use two teaspoons of Phostrogen in two gallons of water at every watering at this time of year.

    I have never fed potatoes, still get beauties, esp the Winstons

    planted them on the 17th april,they are now starting to get flower buds,
    when will they be ready to harvest?

    I'd be very surprised if you are getting away with watering only once a week. I'm watering my bags once ever two to three days and I feed almost every time.

    As for readiness, the only way to be sure is to have a gentle fish around and see what's there (one of the big downsides with potato bags, I find). If yours haven't flowered yet, it will be too early. .

    Main crop potatoes~ wait until they start dying back, In Scotland possibly as late as September/October

    the amount of rain we have had up here,there has been no need to water!

    the foliage is approx 28 inches tall at the moment,is it possible for them too grow too tall and break?

    Don't remove the flowers and don't eat the fruit that comes from them either. They are poisonous. Read my other answer in the thread above "Why are my potatoes so rubbish?"
    In a tub most of the rain runs off the foliage and is lost so you still need to water as A.Badger says and don't worry about the haulms breaking. Wait untill the flowers die off at least but even better wait 'till the leaves start dying.
