Which Family Car is the best?

Hi,
I suppose it depends on your budget...
I've just bought a July 2006 Vauxhall Zafira 1.9 CDTI (150bhp) with 9,600 miles on the clock for £13000 at a local Vauxhall Main Dealer.
I suggest you draw up a list of cars/MPVs, then go and test drive them making sure you take you family with you so they can test getting in and out of the cars, while you test driving the car fully loaded. Once you've got your short list , then look at getting the best deal. I spent a day in the midlands at a number of 'car supermarkets'. I didn't buy mine there becuase they didn't have the exact spec/model/colour I wanted - I the way home, I drove past a local Vauhall Dealer and noticed a Zafira on the front. The price of the car was £14995, but that didn't put me off. The sales person came out and started talking to me. During our conversation, I mentioned where I'd been and that I was serious about buy 'a' Zafira. He asked what would it take for me to buy his Zafira - so I said Price it at £12,900 (cheapest I'd seen in Derby was £12,700 + fees!) and I would. He came back after talking to his manager and said £13000 if I put a deposit down there an then - so I did!
More than happy, and he said I could pick it up on 1st April as to not waste taxing it.. So now I'm off to sort my finances out and get a loan..
I was also offered GAP Insurance for £295, which I declined. Looking on the web, I see that I can get it for £170 (£10k limit).

I myself drive the Volkswagen Touran 2.0 TDI Sport have now had 3 and would recommend all models to anyone. The main thing is to buy at the right price I purchased mine at the trade price, its not what you know its who you know. As John said above take your family and enjoy the experience but rarely is that the case. If you need to know more please don't hesitate to email.

I have a VW Sharan. 02 TDI. I found this better for my family than a Zafira due to haveing more space and it feels more solid!
I bought mine a year ago for £8000. Seems to be holding its value too.
I often carry 2 adults and 5 children with 2 pushchairs and numerous changing bags and toys and its very happy and so are the children. Mine came with 2 chairs with built in infant seats - Which are Fantastic as i iften carry other peoples children - no more lugging baby seats around.
MPG currently around 44mpg on lane roads on school runs. Motorway takes it to 48mpg - did manage 50mpg once!
Can highly recomend the Sharan. An alhambra or galaxy are cheaper versions.0 -
Thanks all,,,will have a good chat to hubby and see what we can agree..0

I would also recommend the Zafira , I am on my second Zafira now and they have both been extremley economical and reliable .. with lots of cubby holes and plenty of space... my grandchildren love it and always want to come in my car if we are going out as a family....#6 of the SKI-ers Club :j

I love my 51 plate fiat multipla and it has not put a foot wrong in 3 and a half years despite my giving it only a 99 quid full service including MOT each year. Only six seats tho and the petrol is thirsty.I think....0
