You'll no doubt get a lot of people saying the best thing about Rhyl is the road leading out of it but here's a few tips.

The Seaquarium is worth a visit but it's a bit expensive for what it is. You can sometimes find vouchers, usually one free child admission with every paying adult, in the local papers or a free magazine called Rarin'2'Go that you sometimes find in Tourist Information Centres, supermarkets, etc. If you've got £5 of Tesco Clubcard vouchers you can trade this in for a £20 Seaquarium voucher.

The Sun Centre has always been a popular tourist attraction but I'd read the reviews here before going - http://www.qype.co.uk/place/160883-Rhyl-Sun-Centre-Rhyl.

The Children's Village on the seafront has never really taken off but it has a kids funfair. Geronimo's in the Palace Fun Centre is good fun for kids (my kids love it at least). There are two parts - Geronimo's for bigger kids and Little Injun's for the smaller ones. One word of warning - anyone going in must be wearing socks! (They will offer to sell you a pair if you haven't brought your own). http://www.palacefuncentre.co.uk/text/geronimos.htm.

There's a miniature railway running around Marine Lake to the west of the town - http://www.rhylminiaturerailway.co.uk/locomotivesstock.html.

The proper funfair was demolished years ago but there are a couple of funfairs in Towyn which is a about two miles from Rhyl. These are at Tir Prince on the main road and Knightly's down by the beach.

The cinema is Rhyl has recently had a revamp - http://www.apollocinemas.com/apollo-rhyl.aspx.

Looking further afield the Welsh Mountain Zoo in Colwyn Bay is worth a visit - http://www.welshmountainzoo.org/. I'd also recommend a day out to Conwy and Llandudno and maybe a trip inland to Ruthin to visit the Gaol - http://www.denbighshire.gov.uk/en-gb/DNAP-7PUFPD.

As far as supermarkets are concerned there's a Morrisons just over the railway bridge from the town centre and a Sainsburys further out of town heading towards Rhuddlan. There are a Co-op and an Iceland in the town centre. Kinmel Bay, which is about a mile away from Rhyl on the other side of the river, has an Asda.
The fridge is empty, the walls are damp, there's no hot water
And I look like a tramp and tramps like us
Baby we were born to walk

Rhyl isn't that easy on the eye these days.
Like FatAndy writes, have a day out in lovely old Victorian Llandudno, and take in Conwy at the same time.

Just to set people's minds at rest, with the exception of a dwindling number of hotels on East Parade and a few guest houses here and there very little of Rhyl's holiday accommodation is actually in the town itself. Most of the caravan parks in particular are either right on the outskirts of the town or in other places altogether, such as Kinmel Bay and Towyn which are not only not in Rhyl but aren't even in the same county as Rhyl.

I thought Rhyl was great as a nipper, but the promenade has been completely taken over by grotesque buildings, and the views are now virtually zilch.
