    OK that's good.

    In simple broad terms, the freeholder is responsible for looking after the building and yo for your flat. You pay the FH a service charge for the cost of their tasks.

    The builder held the freehold of the flats in a Man Co which was dissolved. Irrespective of what the successor did, you need to access the Land Registry to find out who owns the freehold of your block(s) http://www.landregistry.gov.uk/

    I suspect it has no freehold owner and has reverted to the Crown. Richard and I have posted at the same time and all he is said is correct.

    Once you know do come back and we can take it further.

    The concern is that if there is no freeholder then you may not be insured and there is no one to take on the roles in the lease. There are various solutions, the most important of which is as a group insure the building so that you and your mortgagees are protected as a stop gap.

    But a random company cannot take on the freeholder's obligations without "obtaining those rights" such as buying the freehold or using the law to override that by the right to manage, LVT appointment, or resurrecting the original Man Co..

    The easiest is RTM.
    Stop! Think. Read the small print. Trust nothing and assume that it is your responsibility. That way it rarely goes wrong.

    Time to get together with all the other leaseholders, establish who now owns the freehold, and put a new solution in place
    a) so you can sell
    b) so the buildings get looked after
    c) so others can sell
