Council Tax, on a barge

Hi.

In 2012 I have been advised that due to my low income I will not be paying council tax due to being on such a low income with my partner and myself.

In 2011 I was in the same financial situation, however I have recieved notification of a court summons for unpaid council tax. I attended court and due to documents not being up to date the case has been adjourned.

How can this be, I am in diar finances and nothing has changed. I have a joint claim with my partner who recieves a small amount of sickness benefit.

Please help, this is becoming very stressful.

Thanks

I would second RAS, did you actually claim and receive any council tax benefit in 2011 ?
I no longer work in Council Tax Recovery but instead work as a specialist Council Tax paralegal assisting landlords and Council Tax payers with council tax disputes and valuation tribunals. My views are my own reading of the law and you should always check with the local authority in question.

Would you even be liable for council tax on a barge. I thought you could just move out the area for a few days a month and you wouldn't need to pay it.

The landing is what is banded - if your moored at the landing you'd be liable for the council tax on that landing.
