Left BT-rebate of overpayments?

I've moved to Plusnet from BT for rental plus w/end & evening calls package; This was effective from 22nd June.My "final" BT bill appeared online showing a rebate due of ~ £37 so I cancelled the DD for next month.HOWEVER,BT have now reinstated the DD!
How long to they normally take to rebate overpayment?I'm prepared to leave the DD live for a few days but I don't want BT claiming another DD AFTER the final bill has been issued:(

Mine came back fine from BT. I think they need the DD details to pay it back
I cancelled my DD once I had the money back.
Unable to remember how long it took, weeks not months thoughNumerus non sum0 -
How can they reinstate a DD? Only the account holder can do that if you've already cancelled it.No free lunch, and no free laptop

@macman - unfortunately you are incorrect - spoke to NatWest who said that BT CAN reinstate DD after I had cancelled it online - I apparently have to formally write to NatWest instructing them not to allow reinstatement!
Think Farway is partially correct - they have reinstated DD before final bill was available, assuming that I would owe them rather than the other way around!
Still leaves me with the problem of timing - next DD would be due on 19th so I need to cancel by 13th to prevent any possibility of them grabbing more money - no sign yet of rebate and nothing on the MY BT account web pages to indicate timescales.0 -
I am not incorrect. If a bank reinstates a DD after you have given instructions to cancel it, online or otherwise, then they are clearly in breach of the DD agreement and you have a right to insist on full repayment immediately should the DD then be invoked. I suggest that you talk to someone at NatWest who has a clue.No free lunch, and no free laptop

Very easily. It is simply reactivated. To prevent this the user needs to remove the mandate from the account. If this is not done, the originator has 366 days to reactivate it.
Further 'giving instructions' to a bank means exactly that - you need proof that the removal of the DD was required. The devil, as always, is in the detail!0 -
UPDATE - Got my Account balance money back yesterday, direct into bank acc.- however, DD is still sitting on bank acc. as "reinstated".
Actual BT online account is showing balance of £0 but with next bill date of 21st July, even tho' the same page says that I have had final bill!!
I'm going to cancel the DD again - and wait for the reaction from BT!0 -
A final bill paid means you don't need to keep the mandate - make it inactive then delete it, which prevents any deactivation.0
