Barclays regular saver at 12.5% - has it gone?

Hi, I was having a look for the regular saver account with Barclays, but I can't find it anywhere. Has it been wiped? Shame if so, as it was so high at 12.5%....anyone know?

Yes, the account was withdrawn from sale at the end of business on February 28th 2007. The new account Barclays are promoting is their 6.5% mini cash ISA.

There are many other regular savings accounts available. Check Moneyfacts for the options available.

My 10% Barclays Regular Saver account has just matured. When I phoned them up yesterday to ask if I could open another one I was told they had all been withdrawn and I too was subject to a sales pitch for their very non competitive cash ISA. In my opinion this Regular Saver A/c was just a short term gimmick to attract people in and then try and snare them more permanently. Fortunately some of us are too bright to be snared.

My 10% account matured and I noticed that i hadn't received a bonus amount of interest. As I wanted to open the 12.5% this year, I called them. When I did, they said that it was fine to open the 12.5% one, but you are only allowed to have one bonus regular saver IN YOUR LIFE!!!!! I couldn't believe it!!.

Then it got worse......they said that I could open the 12.5% account because the one I had was some bog standard 1% interest savings account. That was the final straw!! I switched on my laptop and wrote a lengthy complaint!

They were brilliant! responded within 5 working days (as i had asked in my letter), gave me the equivalent interest I should have earned directly into my current account the next day AND allowed me to open the 12.5% regular saver in addition!!:D:T

A word to the wise....if they tell you foolishness, tell them STOP, NO and DON'T!! Then write a complaint letter and demand compensation!!!!

Of course there is nothing like a nice bit of compensation is there. Good god what sort of a society do we live in.

This is poor advice, ask for compensation if you think, after consideration, you deserve it but don't demand anything. This is a symptom of the 'compensation culture' that has developed in this country.
