how will carers allowance and dla affect tax credits

is there any way of working that out rather than waiting ages to hear from them?

DLA is not taxable so should have no effect. However if the DLA is for one of your children you should get the disabled premium on top of the CTC.

CA is a taxable benefit so it will be classed as income of around £3300.

I get tax credits and CA, and my son is in receipt of DLA. I get the maximum tax credits available because the DLA is high rate care - there is a disability element for those getting DLA for a child, and an additional severe disability element if the child gets HRC.

I'm single, so apart from CA I don't have any other taxable income. I would imagine that if you are married or living with a partner, their income will be taken into account for the tax credits.

If your Carers allowance is your only income the disabled child increase will be more more than the decrease for your CA if that makes sense.

So you should be getting a bit more than you were, which is meant to be the case so that you can use the extra money for the extra costs of the disability.
