Council tax discount.

I claim 25% council tax discount as a single person.
I have been seeing someone for about 11 months now and things are starting to get a bit more serious so that he is now spending some time here, a night a week.
Are there 'rules' about council tax discount like there is for some benefits. He claims the discount too on his own property.

He doesn't live with you so you will both still be entitled to your individual 25% discounts until which time as one of you gives up your permanent address and moves in with the other and start sharing more than just dinner on a few nights a week and start sharing bills such as gas, electricity, water and rent/mortgage.:footie:
Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S)
Loans cost 2.9% per year (Nationwide) = FREE money.

This is asked regularly here, and yes, council tax is subject to the same rules for single claims-however there is no 'magic number' of nights that it is 'safe' for him to stay over in reference to your entitlement to claim as a single person, it is more complicated, involving whether you are deemed to be a couple sharing finances etc. Different councils seem to judge this issue differently.Tomorrow is always fresh, with no mistakes in it!0

Well we are under 2 different councils

We are definitely not sharing finances, still pay for ourselves if we go out anywhere, have separate bank accounts, bills etc.SPC #1813

If he is living alone and is paying CT elsewhere then you are both OK.If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing0
