Recommendations for large international wire transfers

Hi,

We will be doing a fairly large (£60-80k) fund transfer from the US to the UK. What is the best way to get this arranged to ensure I receive the best rate - just bank to bank, or third party service?

A 3rd party service will give you a much better rate than the standard bank rate, although you have very little protection if they were to go bankrupt.

However, banks can give better rates than their standard rate if negotiated in advance, so I would suggest looking at some quotes from places like XETrade and these: http://www.fxcompared.com/Content/money-transfer-from-USA-UK-above-3000-amount-130000 then call the bank and see if they can beat or match them.
