redundancy and non competitive clause

Hi all,
any input and advice would be most welcome. I have just been made redundant after 5 years service. I work as a channel manager. My business day to day is networking with people. My contract has NO non competitive clause in it. However, I have now been told that because the company has put together this superb redunancy package they would expect me to sign a non competitive clause preventing me from either having interviews for the next 3 months or working for the competiton for the next 12. . . Is this legal?

It would be if the superb redundancy package is conditional upon signing. You have the choice not to agree and have the bog standard package.0

How good is the package
12 month pay would be very reasonable.
< 3 months pay get stuffed.
What's the alternative?
now the clauses,
What defines an interview.
Are you excluded from any work for 3 months or just similar work.
is that really an OR. no job for 3 months OR 12month competitor
Anything to stop you becoming a competitor.
If you got a job without interview? networking can be good for that approach.0
