train compensation ?
I was involved in the chaos caused by the atrocious weather last week.
I was travelling home to Edinburgh from MAnchester with Transpenine express when,at Preston,we were told that because of a landslide we would have to get off and await buses to take us further. TOtal chaos outside the station with hundreds out there.
I asked both staff member when the coaches would arrive to which the reply was,"no idea..if at all".
This was at 6pm but was told that my ticket would be ok for using the next day so I ended up staying in Premier Inn in Preston.
Can I claim any compensation?
Thanks in advance

Nope. They provided alternative transport which got me to Edinburgh... albeit at 2.20am. You choose not to travel.0

Yes, as you were delayed for over 24hrs. Send a letter to First Transpennine Express enclose your tickets and see what you get back.

First Transpennie's Passenger charter states' delays over 30mins will entitle the passenger to compensation. However, it does also state delays due to outside of their controls won't be upheld, ie weather or vandalism.
But First Transpennine customer services ain't to bad and a well worded, professional letter should work. Your compensation will be in rail travel vouchers.Whoa! This image violates our terms of use and has been removed from view0 -
Hi, I was also caught in the landslides travelling from Cardiff up to Glasgow on the 28th June. I asked someone who worked at the station if I was to go to a hotel or hostel if I would be reimburst and he said yes. I collected a claims form from the station the next morning and sent in my receipt for the hotel, taxis I took and the ticket I was meant to travel on and I received £75 worth of train tickets back from Virgin Trains
The reason I left was because I had a sprained ankle, and due to all the standing and queueing it had swollen really bad. The letter I got back didn't mention that part at all. Hope you get something back0
