NO credit checks?

Hello all

I am on the verge of opening an account with thinkbanking (I have been accepted and just need to sign the paperwork and send it back to them) But dont really fancy paying the £25 fee and then the £14 a month fee.

Ive heard some people say on here that basic bank accounts do not credit check you. But every thread i have found on this has been about 2 years out of date. Co op is not an option for me.

Does anyone know ANY basic bank accounts (Apart from co op) that will NOT 100% credit check you? Or shall i just open an account with thinkbanking?

Thank you very much

Metro Bank perform an ID search using a credit reference agency for it's basic account

Every bank will do a CRA search, but for any basic account, it will not check your score, but your identity.

If you've struggled to get an account, you're lucky as Co-op are separate, however my advice here would be not to go to Lloyds/Halifax, as some branches may well be transferring over.

Barclays are known as one of the best.

Sorry, just pointing this out before suggestion is made again; it's nothing personal.

Metro Bank perform an ID search using a credit reference agency for it's basic account

    Hello

Thank you for your input. So when they do an identity check using a credit agency, that is just to confirm who I am? But if im taking in photo ID etc, why would they need to perform such a check?

Also, This is nothing to do with credit? (I have had issues with one payday loan lender in the past, and a mobile phone contract which is why im asking) They recently opened a branch in Chiswick which is not far at all from me so may pop down tomorrow.

Have you personally tried them yourself? Sorry for all of the questions, Im a bit of an idiot when it comes to these things. I do appreciate your help.

    Thank you again

My experience was that Metro Bank conducted an Equifax identity search first which produced a result immediately after pressing submit - this gets you at least a basic cashcard account

The full credit search takes longer to produce a result (approve or refer etc) and you will not require this for the basic account

here are the Equifax entries for my application - you will see two searches

The money laundering search provides additional confidence to the bank

It proves you live at the address you state (ensure your on the electoral roll).
Its required for anti money laundering obligations.

If you refuse such a check, the bank will understandably become nervous as to why you don't want them to do it.

thanks everyone for your input again, it is greatly appreciated.

I wouldnt refuse the check, I was just curious why they would need to run an ID check if i have photographic IDm along with proof of address etc.

Just another quick question, will this check be the same as the one ThinkBanking does? (As i know thinkbanking do not credit check you, They ran an identity check on me over the phone and told me everything was fine within about 20 seconds). So is the check the metro bank will do the same as ThinkBanking?

Again thank you all so much for your help, it really is appreciated

    -edit-

Just to update you all. Successfully opened an account with Metro Bank. Walked in was greeted straight away, asked me what I needed, I asked if they ran a credit check for their basic account they told me they didnt. Showed me to a table and within 30 seconds i had a representative greeting me. She took a copy of my driving license, photocopied it and entered my details on the system. She then politely asked if I would like her to run a credit check, Just to see if i was eligible for a current account (I thought here we go, thought it was too good to be true, they are gonna try and get me on a current account) I politely refused, And without further question she continued the application. Printed off all the forms, got me to sign it. Set me up for internet banking. Got my account number, sort code, and the actual card all within 10 minutes. Was even offered a tea or coffee.

Absolutely faultless. Cannot criticise one thing so far, I guess time will tell. All in all i am very very happy.

Thank you everyone that contributed to this thread and helped. Very much appreciated
