HSBC Credit Card Transfer Balance

My boyfriend has poor credit but earns good money so his bank have sent him a letter saying he has been pre approved for a credit card with them. He wants to use it to get his credit rating up, he currently owes £700 on one of my credit cards, will he be able to do a balance transfer from my card onto his? His will be 0%, my isn't so will be worth doing for him and clears some debt out of my name and I can cut my card up!

My OH transferred a balance from a card in my name (Lloyds TSB) to a card in his name (Egg) without any probs.

Pre-approved means absolutely nothing. It is merely a marketing phrase meaning that he has been included in a mailshot, with any application he makes subject to the normal credit checks. If he had been approved for a credit card, the phrase used would have been "approved."

With HSBC pre-approved actually does mean exactly what it says on the tin. They have decided that based on account conduct they are willing to give him the card without application. Just double chech that it says pre-approved for the card rather that pre-approved to apply!
You can do the balance transfer as long as your own card isn't HSBC (it wouldn't be 0% coming from another HSBC card).
