How much for building inspectors to come out?

I've recently had a load bearing wall removed in my house and had building inspectors out to check it and give me the appropriate paperwork etc.
I've received an invoice from them for £240 - is this right bearing in mind they made 2 very quick visits?
I'm unsure as a builder mentioned to me previously that it would be a 'nominal fee' - doesn't sound very nominal to me! They're a private company but approved by the council if that helps.

You will probably find that the charges for the private company are scaled the same as the council. Check the council website. You'll be surprised at the cost of building control inspections. I did a garage conversion for a customer last year. Building control made 3 visits totalling less than 15 minutes and the fee was over £400. Bear in mind that you won't get very far without it!Eat vegetables and fear no creditors, rather than eat duck and hide.0

Assuming we are talking about an approved building inspector in connection with Building Regulations approval the fee seems about right.
Your local council building control department probably publish their fees on their website so you can check. It is calculated on the cost of the work so anything upto £5000 would incur a fee of between £200 and £300.0 -
Thanks for the responses - I've had a look at the council website and the charge is the same so looks like it is right - always worth checking though!0
