Can ANYONE help me with advice?

Yes,
My mum has moved three times since the original address the account is registered to, only a year or so after the final deposit.
One was a temporary address while the sale of the family home was processed, and twice since.
I have sent a letter to head office, recorded delivery, and I have written consent from mum to act on her behalf.
I have also been to mylostaccount.org for some follow up advice should the Halifax not be able to prove proof of closure.
On another note, my mum had several of these books, for myself, my brother, joint savings for herself and my father, company books and other personal accounts. All of which, if have been closed, are stamped and punched on every page, showing a closed account and final withdrawal amount.
All I can do now really is wait for a reply from head office.
Fingers crossed, I shall post when i recieve the fateful letter!
Keith

UPDATE: 10/07/2012
Letter of consent sent to head office giving authority to act on my mothers behalf, recorded delivery, signed for on 3/07/2012
All paperwork sent, and electronic application through mylostaccount.org.... Of which, I sent to Bank of Scotland and the Halifax. BoS replied immediatly that no account held, Halifax....no response
I have just had a lengthy coversation with the Halifax, they have no data on this account.
They have advised me that the account is probably closed, but can offer me no proof of closure or transfer of the account to any other account/ bankers cheque to withdraw the money.
How do I stand on this matter?
The Halifax told me that after 6 years, they have no legal requirement to hold details of the account, yet they cannot prove to me that the account is actually closed.
They have searched all current and past systems ( so they say ) and are basically at a loss as much as I am, as to what has happened to the status of the account.
If the Halifax cannot PROVE closure or balance withdrawal, would I have a right to take a legal approach to recover the balance? I have the passbook showing the balance, and as far as I am concerned, the account is open until proof to show otherwise.
HELP!!!!

You need to check what happened to the money in the account at the time of the divorce - it could be that the money had to be withdrawn and divided since it was technically your mothers.
Clarify the above and if you think you still have a case, then take it up with the Financial Ombudsman Service.

Hi your quotes are not quite working - to get something quoted - you need to add a [ to the last quote - so it should be [ /QUOTE] (remove space).
