Warning To Currys Retail shoppers in Falkirk/Stirling Area - Rude staff

I was an employee of Dixons Retail for 5 years, I can firmly stand by what my ex-colleague did in Falkirk. (Personal opinion of course, not opinion of Dixons Retail or any of its subsidiary companies)
Even in your own words you have a stinking attitude and a seemingly huge chip on your shoulder.
The product was clearance at £279, and believe it or not there's a reason why its at that price. It was (more than likely) at £349 or £329 at RRP, this means you are already saving at worst 10%, which is what all employees are entitled to.
Because the product was clearance and at £279, it was also .97p where colleague discount is banned.
So, in summary. You are getting a fantastic tv for employee rates (or better!) and you are asking for more than what the store manager and the rest of the store team get?
I've obviously heard all your type before "discount for cash"/"bought x product y time ago"/"whats your best price" and if I'm going to be 100% honest, you'd all get !!!!!! all. If however you were genuinely friendly, took a genuine interest in the technology that I had a passion about and believe it or not, enjoyed selling and sharing with people (truthfully). I would go even further out of my way to help you.
I struggle to see how going into a store, looking for the cheapest tv where the store makes little to no margin on anymore (notice I used store, not chain. There's a difference and that's a whole seperate issue) and ask for discount, kicking up a fuss then going to Comet; who of course are going to be more than welcoming to someone who is looking to vent at their frustration with their superior competitor.
I would love you to go and spend £279 in Tesco and see how far you get with discount.0 -

Plus whats more there was other member of staff around him that even said me offering £250 was a pretty good offer so when i came up on the price and still nada thats when i decided to make a simple honest statement then leave. As for my attitude it comes with my job as a buyer for an online retailer i wasn't being rude i was taking some business acumen to personal retail.
Business acumen :rotfl:glad you dont work for me,
For what must be the millionth time on this site Currys/PCworld are a business and not a charity. Customers have the choice to buy or not from there.
Your buying power for a small tv and a Washer was piddling, I would be amazed if there was much margin in that sale.
My own experience of Currys in the past few years has been good, admittedly I wish the staff would go on more product training courses but will allow that seeing as they have to flog anything from PCs to hairdryers.
Couple of years back I had a flood and required a house full of white goods, cameras, consoles, tellies etc I spent a good hour walking round selecting items from my list, the cost came to 10k, I paid 8k and had a couple of Nikon lens thrown in for free.
My tips for haggling:
Smile
Know your stuff/models/prices
Be polite, pleasant and realistic
Keep in mind the ultimate goal: that Both parties should be happy with the deal0 -
From personal experience I can fully agree with SHORTsight, I have shopped in Currys for the last time at Central Retail park Falkirk, they had ink I used for my Lexmark printer and its usually around £11.99 however when I questioned the total at till for two black inks £36.98 I was told thats what its scanning so thats the price!, I dont make a fuss and always pay the advertised prices but there was a discontinued label on the shelf and no price and having bought it for 3yrs I knew the price was wrong, she proceeded to advise me if I wasn't happy I should shop elsewhere, to which her collegue sniggered, Ive worked for River Island for 13 yrs and I would have been sacked for that, those staff in that branch are rude! and it is costing them customers as a business, so rather than criticise a guy for trying to haggle as this site advises read between the lines, if the staff had been courteous he would probably paid the money, but that lot in their are arrogant and sales driven with no manners or understanding of retail, watch this space, empty unit available soon!0
