The following is a personal experience which happend today (Sunday)

I went to my local currys in Central retail park to look for a nice TV for bedroom and seen one i wanted. It was an LG 32" LED Full HD Telly going for Clearance of £279 i decided i wanted it enough to make a small reduced offer of £250 to be paid by card.

I spoke to a presumed grunt on store floor but he was a "Sales Manager" Michal with Balkan accent and the following conversation of i tried to persuade then to let me see system of whether it was last one in store to which i was refused by own managers merit where as i have seen them do searches for items i was looking buy countless times but this time i didnt get to see what my suspicion/gut instinct says. But anyhow back to the offers/haggleling i upped my offer from the initial £250 to £260 then even went to final £275 and this man with all his gormless geeky gumption turned rudely down a damn good sale minus £4.99 but wait there is more they tried well he tried to offer me warranty before he could or even bother to take down the price. That when things got a little heated although i didn't say anything out of turn i was VERY forward in what I'd like he bluntly got a right mouthful stating i as of this Friday just bought a new cooker worth £450" and him going "i see" with the last sentence being "You just lost a good Customer" i didn't give him any chance to retort then i walked briskly and beeline out of store to the sound of not good awkward hissing sound from staff (LOL)

I walked straight into local comet next door and bumped into manager and assistant manager of store told them what happend in a really searing tone of voice and told them what i was looking for and in the end i bought a Samsung 32" LED TV for cheaper and the guy that served me was really nice to me for it.

i have receipts for cooker and new Telly if anyone wants me to post them up.

I bet Michal was glad to see the back of you, TBH I would have told you to go forth and multiply with that attitude.

To be honest i wasn't being unreasonable just i do not like store and companies like Currys/Pcworld that make HUGE fortunes on ripping off under educated retail savvy people trust me if i could have bought it online for cheaper i would have i know from personal retail experiences that IF i can get clearance item prices down on the haggling but this guy wasn't gonna even budge on a £5er. Plus whats more there was other member of staff around him that even said me offering £250 was a pretty good offer so when i came up on the price and still nada thats when i decided to make a simple honest statement then leave. As for my attitude it comes with my job as a buyer for an online retailer i wasn't being rude i was taking some business acumen to personal retail.

So they were already offering a TV for less than you could buy it online, you made them an even lower offer which they refused and then you continued to have a hissy fit because you didn't get your own way?

Helix, TBRH It was last in store clearance. I knew sorta what i was getting into. But hissy fit?? No. Something i was told when starting out in life if you think you can get it cheaper then DO IT. No risk, No reward son. i am surprised of no-ones heard of customer is RIGHT 99.97% of the time.
  • Sounds like the customer was rude and not the staff.

Amusing. I know some 'job' descriptions are strange but even I can't see the connection with this one.

With your attitude, I'm sure Currys won't mind losing you as a customer. How many times a year do you buy a cooker? And it looks as if you shop on price, not on customer service. I bet if Currys have a stonking offer you'd be back in.

Why should you get a deal on your product - is it that the customer is always right? I agree it is always good to try your luck but perhaps you pushed it too far and the staff stood their ground. I'm sure Currys staff would have a different view of this negotiation and hopefully sold this TV for the asking price and made their shareholders the profit.
