Multiple INR from One Buyer

Hi people

Just wanted some advice. I sold something to a buyer on eBay (no names - no packdrill) and posted it using regular post. Not Signed For, just first class mail. Now this was not an expensive thingy, just £3 including "Free" Post and Packaging. Seven days later I get the

"where's my item , I wanted it for this weekend" message.

When I look at their feedback, there seem to be quite a few comments from the sellers like

"Sorry that you did not get your purchase"

and feedback from the buyer to the sellers in this form :

"Received the second item posted"

or

"Full refund received"

I just contacted one of the sellers of a similar item I sold that the eBay member had just bought and got a reply like this:-

"yes I have sold the same to that member, it has only been 3 days and he send me an email, he hasn't receive the item !!!"

Royal Mail - are they really that bad?

;)

So, how do you report an issue like this to eBay/PAYPAL?

I'd phone them up and report the buyer as suspicious. It's clearly someone who buys stuff that is sent non recorded, then claims it doesn't arrive.

It's always best for a seller when a case isn't opened, so many of these "gone astray" items will not be recorded.

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)

Do you have a telephone number that I can use and pass on to the other eBay seller please?

While you're doing that it might be worth trying to delay the buyer from raising a case.

Don't let on that you're suspicious, just be appologetic for the delay, ask if they wouldn't mind waiting a few more days incase it turns up, and maybe suggest they give their delivery office a call?

If you go to customer support, top right on any page, there's a contact us page. Choose one of the reasons & on the right you get the option to call.
I'd also flag it up to Royal Mail & mention it to the buyer, put it in such a way that you're doing them a favour.

08003583229 is the number, if you go through the contact page it will give you a pin number to quote so that they can find your account more easily. You need to speak to the Ireland CS not the one based in India (?)

I had a similar case to you over Xmas. Buyer bought 3 items, and paid separately so although they were sent together buyer was able to open INR's on all 3 items opening cases in both Ebay and Paypal with no contact with me at all.
Alarm bells rang and I did some digging along with another seller.
Turned out that this buyer was using 2 separate i.d.'s to buy (set to private surprise surprise) and in the end I had a list of about 27 INR's she had opened.

After several fruitless phone calls to Ebay and Paypal I had to refund.

In the end I went to the Ombudsman because I was so frustrated with Ebay and Paypal! Ebay just sided with the buyer and fobbed me off with scripted excuses and I got absolutely nowhere with them!

One of the sellers did report the buyer to the Police and to Royal Mail.

The buyer was based in Bulgaria and using Empresa Mail in London to ship items to her so there was not much we could do. So frustrating!

I use two ids to buy at the moment (one ID is my selling ID logged on and used to buy items like packaging etc, one is my buying ID buying personal stuff) - and I've had about 7 INRs across the two accounts as well as three INRs on two other websites.

Goodness knows what anyone here would make of me.

Yes I have 2 i.d.'s as well, one private and one business.
But there is a difference between 7 INR's over several years and hundreds of transactions, and 27 over 6 weeks like my dodgy buyer!

I am lucky in that as a buyer I have only once not received my item, it was a large roll of bubble wrap bought from a business seller, and I received a replacement straight away.

As a seller I have probably had to refund about 12 INR's in the last year...

    27 INRs in 6 weeks? ... I suppose that's slightly suspect! :rotfl:

I think you're right in taking the approach that you're completely taken in and haven't a clue that the buyer is amassing a collection of free goods.

If they are getting the same/similar items from multiple sellers, they must be selling them on somewhere - on the same account?

Some time ago, I had the same situation and played dumb. The buyer was so confident that they relisted the item - using my description and my photos! ... Something of a giveaway!

I reported it to eBay (who weren't interested) and then went back to the buyer, making out that it was eBay who noted the buyer was reselling the item, so there was definite proof it had been received... I never heard any more ;)

  • Either they one thief of a postman or they are absolutely taking the p*ss, and I somewhat suspect the latter. Phone eBay A.S.A.P, and try to fob the buyer off with some rubbish drivel, the sort that people like Argos or Tesco send out when you don't receive your order. eBay's phone number is 020 8605 3000
