car insurance claim against self

Hi

My wife today while reversing out of the driveway in my car has driven straight into the side of her car. Her car coming off much worse damaging badly at least 2 panels possible writeoff. My car only has slight scuff on bumper.

We are both with same insurance company with excess on my car is £400 and wifes car is £500.

Would we both have to pay excess and could she claim it back against my insurance.

Best way to approach really??

Cheers

panels may cost less than you think, think about this one if you claim you will have increased premiums for 5 years, and if named driver on yours so will you
Don't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.

Only one of you would have to pay excess.

If they're claiming off their own policies, they will need to initially pay their own excesses

Priced up panels and works out £400 2nd hand before paint and fitting. Not much change out of a grand I'm guessing in total.

I would be inclined to get quotes before looking to claim on your insurance. 5 years of increased premiums coupled with your excess, not to mention loss of no claims discount could easily work out more expensive than repairing the car yourself & not involving the insurance company.

Even if she has, as she was driving she cannot claim against herself for personal injury. However the OP's son could claim if injured but surely OP's wife couldn't of been going very fast.

I realised that but one of them will be able to claim it back so ultimately there will be only one excess to pay.

Will get some quotes for repair before any contact with insurance. Did quick John doe insurance price check with before and after circs and would only increase premium about £30 with protected ncd.
