Removing a tyre from a rim
I'm hoping someone can offer some advise for me...
I have an alloy wheel rim which is now surplus to requirements, scrap value is about £6 (I've called a couple of places) so I'm hoping to fleabay it. Only problem is that it has a very busted tyre still attached to it. What are my options for removing it?
I've just tried myself and it's deff not coming off with brute (manual) force (as mentioned it's totally busted with no air and skewiff on the rim). Would a garage do this for me perhaps and are they likely to charge?

I did this the other week using a reciprocating saw http://www.dewalt.co.uk/powertools/productoverview/hierarchy/21/
took about 3 mins per wheel. If you don't have access to a suitable saw I guess an angle grinder would also do it (but lots of smoke) or if you are short on power tools then a hacksaw.
edited to add....mine was a wheel that was scrap so the cut the saw did didn't matter. If you want to keep the wheel intact then tyre place is the way to go0 -
i was about to suggest an electric saw and i was beaaten to it
just be carefull near ya wheel with it

Sell it with the tyre on. If you want to remove it, I normally break the bead first by jacking my van up on it.0

I've done a cover change by hand, once or twice, but never on an alloy wheel.
Bloody hard work though.0 -
You need a decent breaker bar and a few levers. Possibly cost more than you may get for the wheel.
For a one off, Sell it with the tyre. Unless it sells for enough to pay to get it removed.
This is something i maybe looking at in the future. Alloys.
Have to let us know what it weigh's and what car/size etc. Cheeky face on nowCensorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -

Far better is a sledge hammer and some angle iron to break the bead and then levers to take it off.0 -
If you go to your local tyre garage they`ll want at least £5 to remove the tyre, if you sell the alloy for £6 it's not really worth it. Removing the tyre yourself will be fun I imagine0

Angle grinder with the smell of rubber and black dust up your
nose for ages.
Ahh the things we did when we were young and wouldnt dream of spending £1 on anything except the next roundCensorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0
