    does that include Bank holidays?

and do you work 4 hours a day or do the hours vary from day to day but total 20 hours a week?

and how much holiday does a full-time person receive (including bank holiday entitlement)?

You are entitled to 4/5 the full minimum entitlement, which = 22.4 days leave.

That is indeed a minimum but could be higher entitlement. Whether it should be measured in days rather than hours depends on whether Charityworker works a standard 4-hour day.

I've worked 2 bank holiday mondays this year. Does that make a difference?

As long as they let you take a minimum of 22.4 days holiday they can dictate when to let you take them unless your contract states 15 days plus the bank hols.

It makes a difference insofar as paid bank holidays can form part of your entitlement. In your case, as you actually worked on the bank holidays, they are not part of your holiday entitlement. They would have been paid as worked time not holiday time.

You need to check when your holiday year starts. Some companies operate a January to December year or one which runs from April to March. Those are the most common but they can use any 12-month period they use.

If they have issued nothing in writing which states when your holiday year is, then it is a personal one which starts on your first day of employment.

As you cannot be paid for holiday due but not taken, you need to ensure that you are able to take your full entitlement within the current holiday year.

Let's assume, then, that you get the statutory minimum which is 28 days a year, which includes BHs.

You are entitled to 22.4 days a year, TOTAL paid leave. This means Annual Leave and Bank Holidays.

With regards to BHs: if you are supposed to work on a BH but have the day off, this needs to come out of your total of 22.4 days. If you work on that day, nothing happens to your leave total. You should be paid for all days worked, and all of the 22.4 days taken off, whether those are BH days or AL days.

    HTH. :)
