Convert copyprotected WMA to ipod Mp3

Hello all (1st post and I'm not much of a PC whizz).

I recently bought the kaiser chiefs new album from Woolworths download service but I can only play it on WMA format and as yet can't put it on my Ipod. I can't burn it to CD-r either?!

A friend told me this was probably because it was copy protected (in WMA format) so at the moment I can only listen to it on the PC Windows Media Player.

Does anyone out there know how I can convert it to MP3 format and put it onto my Ipod? I don't know if I can remove the copy protection or not? Is there free software out there than can do this?

Thanks in advance

Yes you would have to remove copy protection to convert it although I'm surprised the licence doesn't allow at least one cd burn, but discussing copy protection circumvention is against forum rules I believe.

As you have an ipod it may be better getting your songs from itunes in future. If you are buying albums it may be cheaper to buy the cds, that way it also is less likely to have copy protection to rip it to your ipod and it will be much higher bit rate/quality than any download.

Exactly, if you want the odd track then downloads are fine (better than paying a fiver for a single) but for albums I really can't see the saving at all, especially if you go dipping into bargain bins in the high street or use places like play.com or cd wow that have free shipping. The only way you could save by downloading is if you wanted huge amounts of music and then you are better off with a subscription service, wippit has a limited amount of tracks included in it's subscription but you can keep them if you cancel, whereas other subscription places you end up losing all the tracks if you cancel.
