Thanks SC1 for your tips... I've already earmarked a few days this week to have a clear out. We'd shipped off loads of old DVD's and CD's at the start of the year, but we have absolutely shed loads of them lingering around. We struggled to find anywhere that would take books, any ideas?

Going to have a brainstorm and figure out ways to make some extra £'s using myself (not selling myself on the corner, lol) but evening/weekend work! Already have ideas about doing a car booty too when (if) the weather improves in Leicestershire! :rotfl:

RE BOOKS - Try the amazon trade in. I have just sent most of my books in. I was a little dissapointed with the price they offered for some of them but the ones I know i can get more for elswhere I have kept and will sell on eB4y and car boot sales ect.

    Every llittle helps!

I've got rid of my debt now but I still do some of the same things and put into savings to help towards holiday spending money.

Things like any money I've saved when shopping using coupons, BOGOFs, reduced items etc, I total it up once a month and pay into savings. Last month I saved nearly £15 which I transferred to savings this morning.

Once a week I round down my bank accountto the nearest £5 and the odd money also gets put into the savings pot. This can be anything from a few pence to a few pounds.

Then at the end of each day any small change goes into a savings pot in the cupboard and every so often I'll pay that into the bank as well. Last time I paid some it I have over £30 in it. Probably about £10 or so in the pot at the moment.

It's all only small amounts but over the month/year they add up.

I also do Shop and Scan and use my points for vouchers, usually Amazon and buy things we want or use to buy books, CDs etc as presents.

    Hi Justin

    Good luck with your debts.

On the point of living like hermits it can affect your relationship so try and do something other than sit in the house.

My boyfriend has just told me that we are going to start going for regular walks at first I was a bit put off but actually it'll be nice and I can start using my camera which I've had since Christmas and not really used plus it's free!!

Also we both enjoy cooking so we are going to do some batch cooking next weekend which well enjoy and will save us some money in the long run.

I sold lots of books on Amazon marketplace. Also have a look at Green Metropolis.

  • Hi Justin

re living like a hermit. I agree with the poster above, always staying in & just getting by sucks the fun out of a relationship. So thought I'd contribute some ideas:

    1. go to your county council website and there'll be a link for walking routes. We generally do 1 a week, pack a flask and a snack - a cider if we have it :o) and off we go

    2. cycling after work if you have bikes

    3. join up with netflicks/lovefil/tesco dvd/blockbusters free trails and get into a tv series - can recommend breaking bad if you haven't seen it

    4. look in local papers to see what free events are going on in your area

    5. get a group of friends together and do a "come dine with me" style evening where everyone brings a dish

    6. have a party! fancy dress is always a laugh and everyone bring a bottle

    7. take up running :o)

    8. do a jigsaw puzzle together

    9. take up a hobby

    10. go to as many free museums as your local area allows!

Keep an eye on various boards for tokens/offers

    Just some ideas
