Why DD's have a bad name.

I swapped from SWEB to Powergen online for gas and electric.
I talked to the bank and cancelled the monthly direct debits.
Told SWEB they were cancelled.
Had two letters from SWEB confirming both (gas and elec) DD's were cancelled.
Today had a final bill for gas with a DD for £10 on it then below that 'DD returned by bank unpaid -£10'.
So, they tried to take the money anyway. Ho hum.
