Make no wonder it's going bust. Must be the most inefficiently run country on earth!!
Impossible to book trains outside of Greece, half hour ferrys costing a fortune, bus journeys costing not much less, trains cut off internationally.
Hotels bordering ridiculous, hour long flights starting at 100 Euro.
Seriously, I am going to turn up, couch surf, eat a Chicken Shaslick and get the f**k out of there.
What a chore!!

Made the stupid mistake of agreeing to something in Athens.
Was going to linger in Greece, not any more ;/0 -

I have just come back from the islands and have nothing to complain about, in fact I am hoping to go again in September.
Ferries cheap - 14euro for a sailing from Santorini to Naxos, the return ferry was only 12euro. Naxos to Paros was 6 euros and to Myknonos 9 euros. (The high speed flying cats were a lot more expensive but always have been.) The ferries were clean and efficiently run. Not one was late.
In Greece the only place I found expensive was the touristy Caldera area of Santorini - 5euro for a glass of house wine but it has been like that for years (cruise ship stop over place). Everywhere else cocktails were no more than 4 euros, beers 2.5 euros and 1/2 litre rose wine 3 - 6 euros.
Main meals for one never any more than 12 euros and that was freshly caught fish perfectly cooked or fab pork and lamb.
Buses were less frequent than before just every hour from where i was(but then early season, in my last couple of days they increased to every 30 mins) and I paid 1.60 to wherever I wanted to go one way, some days that was a 10 min ride into town or the two hour trip I did another day.
A take of two experiences - mainland vs Islands maybe?Aim to win in 2013 - a holiday somewhere nice, New York break, treats for family & friends & some cash would be lovely!!!0 -
Why not try a week in Mykonos? This space has been intentionally left blank0

Highly highly highly recommend Naxos & Paros! Not so touristy, but lots of independent tourists as opposed to packages.
Look at Greek Sun. UK tour op and they have some good info and ideas. I booked all mine independently as a solo traveler as you don't get stung so much with single supplements, however, I helped someone at work putting together a holiday doing 2 centres and we only made it £130 cheaper than Greek Sun. So as they were nervous they did the package, they are out there now and have had texts to say that as customers of Greek Sun they have been upgraded in both hotels and has therefore worked out cheaper. They are in Ios at the moment after being on Naxos.

Looks lovely
All I'd need is a few milfs and a babysitter for a fortnight

I decided Greece wasn't for me after a week in Skiathos many years ago. Thankfully it was a paid for trip, but never again will I set foot in that Country.0
