Dial Direct buildings insurance

Just had a quote from them that came out the cheapest, plus included legal and home emergency cover. I wouldn't choose these but as freebies they can't hurt.

I read some horror stories here about their car insurance claim handling - but anyone got feedback about them as a home insurer? Will only be using them for buildings insurance.

thanks
Rob

They are only an intermediary. The main questions are, who will the Insurance underwriter and who will handle claims enquiries.

Most of the complaints about these companies will relate to service issues and therefore the above questions are important. If Dial Direct don't get involved in dealing with the claims enquiries and the Insurance underwriters are decent, then their customer services issues might not matter.
The comments I post are personal opinion. Always refer to official information sources before relying on internet forums. If you have a problem with any organisation, enter into their official complaints process at the earliest opportunity, as sometimes complaints have to be started within a certain time frame.

Be very wary of dealing with these people. They were the cheapest I could get for combined buildings/contents insurance last year (at a cost of £600) - probably paying "Fulham" tax. This year they renewed automatically with a recurring payment of £940! That came straight out of my current account.

Admittedly, I was naive and had not seen the warning letter/text with the blizzard of other rubbish I receive. When I called them they could not explain the price hike - just the "It's down to the underwriters". Don't know how - nothing has changed over 1 year. Cancelled the insurance. To rub salt in the wounds, they did not refund me automatically when the money cleared into their account - I had to call them and found out they had had my payment for 6 days. Be warned - sharp practice!

I take all the horror stories about insurers with a pinch of salt because I have yet to find one that is almost universally loved. Whenever I checked up on customer responses for any insurance company there were always gripes and moans and I believe them to be justified. I just cross my fingers and hope that those with no complaints way outnumber the negative ones. Also remember you don't always get you pay for and more expensive does not necessarily mean better.
