Floods stopped me getting to show - credit card refund?

A few days ago myself and friends had tickets for Newcastle Arena to see Mrs Brown's Boys. Unfortunately for us that was the night that Newcastle was at a standstill because of flooding. Roads were blocked, police were stopping cars and advising people not to travel. We tried for 5 hours to get there but had to turn round and give up in the end. The show went ahead. I bought tickets on my credit card, do you think there is any chance the CC company will refund me? Any advice about what grounds to ask on?

No.
Unfortunately the service paid for was still supplied despite your absense. Thus they fulfilled their side of the contract.
You could of course contact the organisers appealing to their better nature due to mitigating circumstances, but it's unlikely anything will be offered.0 -
The show went ahead so you won't be offered a refund. There are no grounds for a refund from your card issuer.0

Probably classed as force majeure, so I doubt you will be able to claim.0

OK then.
For the benefit of McKneff, I'll substitute Act Of God.

S.75 of the Consumer Credit Act 1974 says that a credit provider may be equally responsible for any breach of contract or misrepresentation by a supplier of goods or services on credit. e.g. if your event organiser took the money but did not provide the event and you had some difficulty getting your money back, your credit company would be legally bound to pay you back the money.
The organiser did not breach the contract by you having trouble getting to the event, so unfortunately you do not have any claim in law to get your money back.0 -
Indeed, if you had chosen another method of transport (Helicopter might have worked ?) then you might have been able to watch the show (assuming you found an appropriate parking spot. I must admit that I don't know many shows that support helicopter parking spots).
The fact that it went ahead shows that at least some people turned up and the staff got there.0 -
I think by Boat would have been more appropriate. Although it doesn't really solve the parking issues but a chain and a railing would suffice.0
